TOUCH ME NOT nominated for the European Discovery 2018—Prix FIPRESCI

TOUCH ME NOT has just been nominated for the EUROPEAN DISCOVERY 2018 – Prix FIPRESCI, at the European Film Awards (EFA) – the award for first feature film! The voting period has just started and the chosen European Film Awards 2018 will be announced on 15th of December, in Seville.

INDIEWIRE on TOUCH ME NOT: “Radically humane.. an unclassifiable film.. a bold treatise about the strange (and often estranged) relatioship humans have with their own bodies.”

Soon after its release in UK and IRELAND, TOUCH ME NOT will be launched in French cinemas on October 31st, by NOUR FILMS, one of the most daring and committed young French distributors, known for their hand-picked line-up of high quality independent cinema works, with singular and engaged views on contemporary world.

Patrick Sibourd (Nour Films CEO) about TOUCH ME NOT:
“Intimate, dazzling, uncomfortable, beautiful, deep, benevolent… An intelligent, profound film, which explores desire and intimate borders, with a cinematic vision of great modernity on the edge between reality and fiction.
A journey of self-discovery, about our emotions, our body, our sexuality, a journey that talks about our ability to evolve towards otherness and the understanting of the Other.”

FILM DE CULTE on TOUCH ME NOT: “A film you have never seen before… a space for self- reflexion, at the same time unsettling and captivating… The subversion of Pintilie’s approach lies particularly in the way to re-imagine the relationship with our own body and the limits of this body. Intimacy – the film proposes – it’s the art of pushing these limits, of breaking down your inner walls. At this level, TOUCH ME NOT absolutely breaks new ground.” (Gregory Coutaut)

Prior to the cinema release, TOUCH ME NOT will have its French festival premiere in the International Competition of La Roche-Sur-Yon International Film Festival, curated by festival director Paolo Moretti. The film will be screened, in the presence of filmmaker Adina Pintilie, on Friday 19th (18h00) and 20th (10h45) @ Cinéma Le Concorde. You’ll also have the chance to expand the conversation with the filmmaker within the Directors’ Talk on 19th of October at 16h00, where Adina Pintilie, together with Roberto Minervini, will discuss about their working methods, shooting/editing approach etc.

TOUCH ME NOT chosen the <film of the month> by L’AVANT-SCENE CINEMA:

“Ever since the very beginning of cinema, the questions about body representation and its erotization are haunting the cinema screen. It’s impossible to discuss cinema history without addressing these topics. What makes TOUCH ME NOT so important is that it not only bravely faces these questions, but also, with unexpected methods, answers them brilliantly.” (Rene Marx) Full review here:

Winner of the Golden Bear and the GWFF Best First Feature at the Berlinale 2018, the highly controversial and innovative TOUCH ME NOT is a film-research about intimacy – an essential aspect of our humanity, and yet a topic we find so difficult to talk about, surrounded by so many taboos, shame, guilt and blockages.

“A fusion of reality and fiction, TOUCH ME NOT is, before everything, an invitation to dialogue,” says filmmaker Adina Pintilie. “It invites you, the viewer, to question your own ideas about intimacy, sexuality, the body, to be curious about the different Other and to exercise your empathic ability to put yourself into this Other’s <skin>.”

Through the intense controversy it raises, ever since its world premiere at the Berlinale, TOUCH ME NOT opens up a space for self-reflection and transformation, reaching beyond the cinema, into the public debate forum, becoming more than a film, a consciousness-raising experience. An essential contribution to this has been the committed involvement of the key film’s protagonists in this active direct dialogue with the audiences, beyond the screening time. TOUCH ME NOT will be released in cinemas in more than 35 countries starting October 2018 (France, Germany and most of Europe), and in North America in January 2019, while having an impressive journey within the film festivals circuit, the Berlinale premiere being followed by major festivals such as Toronto, Sydney, Karlovy Vary, Sarajevo, Viennale, Moscow, Sao Paulo, Istanbul, Moscow, Montreal. At the moment, simultaneously with the French and UK release, TOUCH ME NOT started its festival tour in the Nordic countries, with the Icelandic premiere in the New Visions program of Reykjavik Film Festival, followed by the Danish premiere at CPH PIX Copenhagen Film Festival, Finish premiere at Helsinki Love & Anarchy Film Festival and Norwegian premiere at Bergen Film Festival, soon to be followed by screenings at the Norwegian Film Institute Cinemateket in Oslo, between 5th and 16th of October. The extensive festival exposure, together with the worldwide theatrical release — where the film will travel together with its key protagonists — offer a solid platform to develop their active dialogue with the international audiences, expanding thus the self-reflective, transformative process the film initiates beyond the cinema space.
